The use of electric current on human tissues for stopping the flow of blood, removing lesions or cutting tissues is known as electro surgery. It is generally used to coagulate, cut, fulgurate or burn tissue.

The electrosurgical haemostasis and dissection is performed by using ‘Bovie’. It is generally used to cauterize or dissect. Also, electro surgery is usually used for dermatological actions, such as removal of gentle skin tumours, mole or skin tags and is recommended by the dermatologists over cryosurgery and laser surgery. The electro surgery is carried out by using an instrument called as an RF knife or a bovie knife. The bovie knife is mainly used to impinge the tissue by using a metal electrode and thus, current is passed to the tissue from the electrode. This bovie device uses a blade to cut or coagulate electrically which is attached to a current generator. As the current passes from the bovie knife and the blade to the tissue, heat gets created.

Also, a bovie knife can be used to coagulate and heat the bleeding vessels and thereby, helping to stop the flow of blood. Thus, this instrument is widely used and now-a-days used bovies are also in demand. Used bovies are also reasonable than the new ones but special care has to be taken while buying used bovies as they can be sometimes harmful.
